Greater Glasgow & Clyde’s Amma Birth Companions needs various items to support women through pregnancy
The Charity:
Supporting women during pregnancy, birth, post-partum, and early parenthood, Amma Birth Companions works across the Greater Glasgow & Clyde area to encourage self-agency during the process, reduce isolation, and advocate against maternal care disparities in the UK.
Since its foundation in 2019, the charity has helped over 400 women as they became mothers. This includes groups typically underserved in maternity care – those who have experienced complex traumas, gender-based violence, FGM, and human trafficking, alongside asylum seekers and other individuals with insecure migration status.
The Project:
Amma works with many women who face extreme financial barriers to buying basic essentials for their newborns. The charity therefore always strives to have a supply of essential items to give out to women as needed.
The Ask:
Amma Birth Companions needs the following items, all to be new:
Nappies (newborn size) and wipes
Basic toiletries – including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, toothbrushes, and toothpaste
Baby and pregnancy toiletries – nappy cream, baby wash, shampoo, nipple cream
Sanitary products and breast pads suitable for pregnancy and post-partum
The charity also needs these items, which can be used:
Prams – newborn or double
Moses baskets – with stands
Wraps and carriers
Birth balls
Tens machines
Breast pumps – manual or electric
