An interview with Ben, a super volunteer software developer
A Good Thing has an amazing network of volunteers and we’re super excited to announce we’ve recently welcomed two new volunteer software developers! They’ve been busy using their fantastic skills to help us develop and update our web app, without their support we wouldn’t be able to implement our wish list of app enhancements so rapidly. We’re delighted to introduce Ben who joined the team after being spotted by Richard on donatecode.com.
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I’m Ben, a software developer from Manchester.
Why did you choose to volunteer with A Good Thing?
I’m in the middle of a career change from sales management to software development. I added my profile to a site called donatecode.com which matches charities with volunteers to offer their time and skills. Richard saw my profile and reached out, I was really impressed with the team's work so far and thought it was a great idea. It was also a fantastic opportunity for me to improve my skills as a software developer so I jumped at the opportunity.
What’s your role as part of the volunteering programme?
I work on improving the app to make sure the experience is excellent for our charities and businesses.
What do you hope to learn from your volunteering experience?
I am hoping the volunteering experience will provide the following:
An understanding of what makes a good experience for users of the app
Improve my skills as a software developer
Tell us about a success you’ve had in the role so far:
It's very early days for me being in my first month with A Good Thing however it's been great to make some small changes to the app to improve the user experience. I'm very excited to be involved and can't wait to make more improvements!
Has Ben inspired you to join our volunteering programme? Do you have a couple of spare hours a week to help us develop our web app?
