Carpet tiles stay close to home as A Good Thing supporter saves them from landfill

When Cardiff-based supporter D&G Office Interiors Limited recently listed carpet tiles on the A Good Thing platform, they couldn’t believe just how close to home they would remain.

Empowering job-seekers and preventing fast-fashion waste

Working Wardrobe provides good-quality workwear and interview attire to those needing a boost of confidence and self-belief. The charity, which is part of the Moxie Foundation, prides itself on being just another step on the road for people seeking employment: it redistributes pre-loved clothing to job-seekers and those experiencing in-work poverty for free, to ease the financial pressures of today's economy.

Working Wardrobe processes donations in a large warehouse space in South Wales (pictured below), which generous local business Inter-Haulage leases free of charge to the charity. The space is jam-packed with clothing and workwear donated by a high-end retail partner. It's all ready to be processed and distributed to the charity's three hubs across South Wales.

Charity Operations Director Rachel Rodrigues couldn't believe her luck when she spotted the carpet tiles listed on A Good Thing. She commented:

"We have a huge space so generously donated to us, but it can sometimes be a bit dusty and not ideal for storing our fabulous workwear donations. I knew right from the start that if we could lay carpet, we would be able to vacuum the space properly rather than just sweeping and moving the dust about."

Staying close to home

Working Warbrobe’s business friend Inter-Haulage stepped in, offering to collect the carpet tiles. When they arrived, Rachel was astounded:

"You couldn't make this up; we spotted masking tape on the corners of the carpet tiles, which had bits of paint from the refurbished office where the tiles had come from. We immediately knew the tiles were from Moxie People, the business founder of the Moxie Foundation. There is no doubting their distinguishing brand colours – they are so big and bold – they were right there on the tape on the carpet!"

Rachel was over the moon with the donation:

"This is a dream gift to us. We may not have rescued the carpet tiles from the office if it hadn't been for A Good Thing and D&G Interiors. We're over the moon with the donation."

Steve, Director of D&G Office Interiors, had recently signed up for A Good Thing as a supporter, having trialled the system earlier this year. He was thrilled with the outcome:

"We would never have known that the charity needed the carpet tiles if we hadn't listed them on the platform. It's great that we have gotten them to the charity’s warehouse and can support their amazing work. It could have been a huge missed opportunity."

Getting ready to donate more

Steve of D&G was utterly delighted by the outcome and spurred on to donate more items on the platform in the coming weeks:

"It encourages me to get the team to list more on A Good Thing. Local charities and people need these items. I will explore what else we can list with the warehouse team. There are often things lurking around that could be listed. It was so quick and easy; it's just a really great thing! Thank you."
