Charity on a mission to create Wales’ first zero-waste town is in need of broken tech to support the project
The charity:
Foothold Cymru is a social justice charity that empowers communities and individuals to achieve real change. It is united by a common vision: creating resilient communities where everyone enjoys a decent standard of living.
The charity is embarking on an ambitious project to create Wales’ first zero-waste town in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. The project, called “Full Circle – Cwblhau’r Cylch”, is a visionary three-year initiative funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. It is committed to fostering sustainable green futures. The project acts as a rallying call to unite local people to be the change-makers the environment desperately needs.
The project:
Foothold Cymru runs a fantastic project called Bright Sparks, where they teach young people how to repair and recycle tech. In doing so, the charity both increases the young people’s employability skills and keeps e-waste out of landfill. Repaired items are donated to members of the community who are in need, helping to alleviate financial strain.
Donations of any small electrical items would really help this project succeed!
The charity also runs a Bike Library, where they teach people how to repair bikes. Once repaired, the bikes are hired out at low cost to help local families to stay mobile and active – reducing reliance on cars.
The Bike Library would benefit from donations of bikes for both children and adults: both in working order and in a state of disrepair. Any bike accessories (such as lights, helmets, protective wear, high-vis and bells) would also be wonderful to help to keep the community safe and save them money.
The ask:
Bright Sparks:
Broken tech items such as:
Laptops.
Phones.
Tablets.
Bike Library:
Both broken and working adult and children’s bikes.
Bike accessories, including lights, helmets, high vis and bells.
