Reduce, reuse, construction: Mulalley & Co donates timber to Streetbox for community projects

In a world where businesses and charities are always looking for ways to give back, platforms like A Good Thing are so important for those who want to make a real difference. A great example of this is the recent donation of timber from Mulalley & Co, a construction company, to Streetbox, a charity dedicated to reducing food waste and hunger.

A donation with a lasting impact

Mulalley & Co, a construction company in Woodford, Essex, found themselves with surplus timber. Rather than send it to a landfill, they turned to A Good Thing. They listed it, and it was out of their hands in no time.

Mulalley & Co have also used A Good Thing to rehome other items that normally would just get chucked.

Sean from Mulalley & Co did some calculations, and found that, through A Good Thing, they have saved "a total of 76.3 tonnes of material worth £53,339. Not sure how many skips this has saved us, but a considerable amount, not to mention waste saved."

It’s clear that this donation helped the construction company reduce its environmental impact by preventing valuable materials from going to waste.

A shelter for the community

Streetbox is a charity focused on saving fresh produce by selling and donating fruit and vegetable boxes. The timber Mulalley & Co donated didn’t just sit idle—it was put to immediate use in one of Streetbox's latest projects: an outdoor structure for fresh produce. Fulfilling projects like this is imperative to helping their cause, and was made much easier to do by the donation from Sean and his team.

Chris from Streetbox explained, "We also had some hessian material donated to us via A Good Thing. Although we’re only using about 100 metres of it, we've already connected with two projects in Haringey that will be using it too." This shows just how far the impact of these donations can reach. With the timber used for the shelter and the hessian material connecting Streetbox with additional projects in Haringey, it's a perfect example of how even small donations can help create big, lasting change.

A win-win for the community and the environment

What makes this collaboration particularly meaningful is that it's a true win-win. By donating their surplus materials, Mulalley & Co not only prevented waste but also supported an initiative that directly benefits communities. Streetbox, in turn, was able to build a much-needed stand and extend their impact by sharing materials with other community-based projects.
