Amazing Berkshire domestic abuse charity supported by Surrey financial services firm

For more than 45 years, The Dash Charity has been supporting adults and children whose lives are affected by domestic abuse. From emergency accommodation to free legal advice to devices that can help them feel safer in their homes, the charity is dedicated to empowering its clients to lead a life beyond crisis and to ensuring that their voices are heard.

At any one time, up to 14 families – many of them with young children – can be accommodated in the charity’s three refuge homes in and around east Berkshire and south Buckinghamshire. Many arrive with very few personal belongings, and there is a constant need for a whole range of domestic items (including furniture). These are needed both in the refuges themselves, and also for the other 100+ families currently being supported by Dash.

“We regularly need to buy or replace items, or upgrade them, in order to help us do our job more easily. But we’re a small team, and time and resources are scarce.” Caron Kipping, Dash’s deputy outreach manager

A Good Thing was recently able to match up Dash with CHG-Meridian, a local financial services company which was looking to find a new home for a quantity of furniture following an office refurb.

“Having the ability to search for and access donations on the A Good Thing platform is really useful for us, and ensures that not only do we save money where we can, but we save the planet at the same time. If items are available that would benefit one of our clients as they move into their new home, that is hugely appreciated by them. They often have to move at short notice to properties that are just an empty shell. This is such a great project – a real win/win!” Caron Kipping, Dash’s deputy outreach manager
