An interview with super supporter Tecna

Tecna joined A Good Thing last year and has since donated 1,000 sanitiser stations to a whopping 28 charities across the UK. We caught up with them to learn more about the forward-thinking firm and their motivation to become supporters.

Who we are and how long we’ve been working with A Good Thing

We are Tecna UK – since 2007, we have been transforming exhibition stands into unforgettable experiences.  We combine creativity with a passion for sustainability to help bring brands to life.

For the past year, we’ve been working with A Good Thing to donate goods to charities in need across the UK.

Why we wanted to donate goods

Following the aftermath of COVID 19, we had some unused hand sanitiser stands in perfect condition that we no longer had use for. We're continually looking at ways to reduce our environmental impact and support the local community – so sending them to landfill was never an option. Seeing that many charities have seen a significant drop in donations spurred us on to start donating a range of goods to those with a genuine need for them. More than anything, we wanted our donations to be put to good use and make a difference in people’s lives.

Our experience of working with A Good Thing

Donating to charity can be daunting if you’re not sure what you’re offering will be helpful. Working with A Good Thing has made the process of making donations run smoothly. They have provided a platform to connect with a range of small and large inspiring charities and organisations across the UK – opening our eyes to the amazing work people are dedicating their time and effort to. We can advertise the goods available, and charities with genuine need can connect with us, which gives us the confidence that the things we donate make a real difference to various communities.

From start to finish, the team at A Good Thing is always there to offer support and answer any questions we have, and the communication they provide has been so helpful.

How working with A Good Thing has supported our sustainability journey and reputation in the events industry

At Tecna UK, our purpose is to support and promote a sustainable events industry. From the design, build and delivery of modular displays to the way we function as a business and contribute to our community, we continue to develop our practices and materials to reduce our impact on the environment.

The events industry is known for generating high levels of waste and greenhouse gas emissions, something that we are trying to change through areas like working with sustainable suppliers, reducing our energy and waste consumption, and offering net-zero stand options.

Working with A Good Thing has significantly supported our sustainability roadmap. It offers a positive way to reduce waste that benefits others and ensures we are supporting the circular economy.

How many charities you've reached so far

We’re thrilled to have donated to 28 charities so far across the UK, including Ronald McDonald House Charities, The CRUMBS Project and The Garwood Foundation. You can see a full list of brilliant organisations on our website.

We have even been lucky enough to hand deliver goods to the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary to support their amazing work in giving donkeys in need a loving home and providing sensory experiences to local communities, including Alzheimer’s Centres!

Why we think more businesses should get involved

There are so many organisations doing truly life-changing things for communities; working with A Good Thing has offered the opportunity to see how donations can make a positive impact. Goods that could easily be sent to landfill are instead making life easier for disabled service users at the Garwood Foundation; and allowing The Anthony Seddon Fund to save money on having to contract out for supplies. Aside from this, we’re reducing the amount of unnecessary waste going to landfill and impacting the environment.

Knowing that a small business change can make a huge difference gives a lot of pride and fulfilment. It also offers a way to show your commitment to sustainability and reducing environmental impact. We’re thrilled to be doing a good thing!
