Surplus chargers give power to local charities

A generous donation of power banks by Desktop Ideas has allowed three charities to provide their services in the community, raise funds, and thank their hard-working volunteers.

A great supporter of A Good Thing

Desktop Ideas is one of A Good Thing’s amazing supporters. They are the UK's leading specialist trade supplier of promotional technology and have been supplying distributors across Europe for over 25 years. We spoke to Manika at Desktop Ideas, who explained that joining A Good Thing was an important step forward for the company to improve their sustainability. While the company is constantly researching new sustainable products, A Good Thing allows the team to save current products from landfill by donating them to local charities in need. Since joining A Good Thing in July 2023, Desktop Ideas has donated 380 items, which has saved an estimated £4,800 in charity spend. When Desktop Ideas recently listed a donation of 28 power banks, the offer was soon requested by three appreciative charities.

Support in the community

The Princes Centre is an award-winning community-run day care centre and one of the first charities to join us at A Good Thing! The charity’s primary goal is to maintain and enhance the quality of life and well-being of its clients, allowing them to remain as independent as possible, for as long as possible. As a provider of personal day care services, the charity was grateful to receive 11 power banks which will allow the team to keep their mobiles and cameras alive whilst out in the community supporting their clients.

Thank you gift

Youth Concern is a youth charity that supports young people aged 13-25 in Aylesbury Vale. The charity provides a safe place for young people to meet and access support when needed. The team provides emotional support, counselling, employment, education and training support, and practical help to deal with homelessness.

The charity received 13 brand new power banks from Desktop Ideas, which will be given in a goodie bank as a thank you gift to the members of their youth panel. The Youth Panel gives its time for free, helping the charity plan its strategy, improve its website, and represent Youth Concern at functions. The staff at Youth Concern are delighted they will be able to provide a thank you gift to recognise the time these young people generously give to the charity.

Raffle prizes

Stockenchurch Dog Rescue is a shelter for dogs that works to find suitable and loving homes for all dogs. They have a policy to never destroy a healthy dog, which means some of their dogs that are hard to re-home- due to old age, health, or behavioural issues- can stay at the rescue for a long time. The very few dogs that are unsuitable for re-homing are provided with lifetime sanctuary at Stockenchurch Dog Rescue –separate animal rooms have been provided by public donations to provide a restful 'living room' for these dogs. The charity was grateful to receive 14 new power notes, which will be used as raffle prizes to generate money to continue their amazing work.

We want to thank Desktop Ideas for their continued support of A Good Thing; since joining us, they have helped eight charities across the UK, and we’re excited for more wonderful matches in the future.
