Anything can be donated to charities via A Good Thing! Ex-hotel uniforms help families in London

When we say that anything can be donated through A Good Thing we mean it! From pillows, aluminium cans, milk, paint, bamboo poles, and now… ex-hotel uniforms.

The donation from Hyatt Place London Heathrow

Hyatt Place London Heathrow hotel is part of the Hyatt hotel group, which is trying to improve its overall sustainability. One element of the Hyatt Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy is to focus on caring for the planet through waste reduction, including food waste and single-use items, and to increase recycling and composting.

When the Hyatt Place London Heathrow hotel found itself with ex-hotel uniforms, it turned to the A Good Thing platform to support the local community while reducing landfill waste. Arpita Patel, the Human Resources Coordinator, explained that the uniforms would have been thrown out if they had not been donated via A Good Thing, adding that the platform was “very easy and convenient.”

The request from Riana Development Network

Riana Development Network is a charity with a mission to build the capacity of vulnerable people to enable them to become self-reliant and restore their hope for the future. The charity believes in harnessing the skills, creativity, ambition, and innovation found in people within local communities who make a unique contribution to society. The charity offers a range of programmes from youth clubs to educational support. Riana Development Network saw the uniform donation, which included clothing such as blazer suits, shirts and tunics, and reached out to request the items to help their service users.

The impact on local communities

Rodgers, Executive Director of Riana Development Network, told A Good Thing that the clothing items were distributed to local families on a low-income who would otherwise not be able to buy similar items. Hyatt Place London Heathrow were pleased with how this donation supported their sustainability strategy and it was great to hear how the local community benefited from the donated items.
