Connections formed over pillows, pallets and pint glasses!
Moxy Hotels (part of HotelCo 51) is one of A Good Thing’s annual supporters, with 17 locations signed up to the platform. Moxy’s London Heathrow branch had a huge quantity of pint glasses taking up space in the hotel.
Michele Tucker, Founder and CEO of Families Thriving Together, spotted the glasses and collected them for use in the charity’s fundraising. Families Thriving Together, a small charity based in Surrey and London, provides inclusive access to parenting support. It works to encourage communities to come together and reduce the stigma attached to attending parenting programmes.
Michele said “A Good Thing has brought so much use to us and we are grateful for this brilliant initiative”.
Moxy London Heathrow had another donation to make. The Riana Development Network (RDN) charity collected 20 wooden pallets from the hotel, which have already been put to use on the community allotment. RDN works to address unmet needs – primarily in the Hounslow area of west London, where communities experience high levels of unemployment, poverty, health inequalities and homelessness. RDN works with disadvantaged members of the community, prioritising education, health, food security and livelihood, to instil hope for a brighter future.
Rodgers Orero, Executive Director of RDN, said:
“Without the donations, it would have forced the organisation to buy these, yet we were lacking the necessary funds to buy the items at the time. We would be happy to continue using the support of A Good Thing in the future as the process was straightforward and the collection was easy.”
Linda Farley, Moxy London Heathrow Captain, told us:
“Without A Good Thing we would never have known about these local charities or how we could be of help to them.”
Meanwhile, Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge had a refresh of its pillows and donated its existing stock to local charity Fresh Start for its bedding starter packs. These are given to those moving on from homelessness.
Darcey Joyce, Community Corporate Fundraiser at Fresh Start, told us:
“It all went really well, great communication between Hellie Stark from Moxy and our warehouse co-ordinator. The pillows were very good quality and in really good condition. The hotel still has more, so I said I would contact them to arrange another collection. We accept any items on this list, so I will keep an eye out for any A Good Thing offers that come up for any of these items!”
Hellie Stark, Operations Manager at Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge, said:
“I know Fresh Start due it being a local charity to Edinburgh and have donated items in the past. It was super easy to use the website and get in contact with the charity to organise collection. We will definitely use A Good Thing again when we have other items to donate, as we found the process very smooth from start to finish!”
