Humans MCR is in need of new toys for its ‘Nobody Hungry at Christmas’ project

Humans MCR is expecting unprecedented demand for its ‘Nobody Hungry at Christmas’ project this year, and is in need of toys to fill special hampers that will be delivered to over 300 families across Greater Manchester.

The Charity:

Humans MCR is a food poverty charity that is focused on the immediate relief of poverty. It works to break the cycle of generational poverty in families and individuals across Greater Manchester. The charity’s services include a food bank for clients who present in crisis, as well as a community grocery shop for people who have access to a small budget but feel priced out of shopping at a traditional supermarket.

Lewey, Humans MCR’s founder, drew on his own experience of using food banks to design a service that gives clients agency, choice, control and dignity. All of the charity’s services are delivery-based removing the need for people to queue for hours in the Mancunian rain to obtain support. Offering deliveries also means that Humans MCR can reach people who aren’t able to access food banks due to their physical health or geographical location.

The charity’s ‘Our World Food Range’ is proof of its dedication to understanding religious and cultural nuances: it has food to suit all dietary requirements. Humans MCR wants its beneficiaries to have access to food that they are comfortable with - it believes that food shouldn’t be a constant reminder to people that they are going through a difficult time.

The Project:

The charity is in need of toys to be used as part of its ‘Nobody Hungry at Christmas’ project. Humans MCR will be delivering Christmas hampers to over 300 families across Greater Manchester this December: these contain everything needed to celebrate Christmas Day, with a lovely lunch, treats for all the family, and gifts for everyone in the household under 18 years of age.

All deliveries are made in non-branded vans, using supermarket-style crates, to protect the dignity of the charity’s clients. The hampers include blank gift cards for parents to write, so they can shield their children from the challenges that they’re facing, giving dignity to parents facing crisis.
