Preseli and A Good Thing come together once again to back local causes: Lambeage Hall and Granby Community Mental Health Group

Preseli is a great example of what it’s like to get the bug for doing a good thing! Like some other dedicated supporters of A Good Thing, Preseli first discovered the platform at a BPMA conference in 2023 and has since become an annual subscriber. Preseli is a promotional trade supplier with core values of giving back through generous donations to various charities and eco-friendly practices, reducing what they send to landfill.

First choice

The team has gone with A Good Thing as their first choice for rehoming items to UK charities. They’ve used the platform to donate to a long list of organisations in the past year - making it possible for many great causes to continue their wonderful and much-needed work. 

Preseli recently donated 110 storm-proof, bottle-green umbrellas to seven charities across the UK. Among the charities benefiting from this contribution were Lambeage Hall and Granby Community Mental Health Group - two organisations serving different needs but united in their commitment to community well-being.

Supporting Lambeage Hall’s accessibility and preservation

Lambeage Hall, nestled in the coastal village of Coverack, Cornwall, plays an important role in its community but faces two significant challenges: limited accessibility and visible wear and tear from nearly 100 years of service.

Getting into the hall requires climbing a steep flight of steps, a challenge for many, especially the community’s elderly residents and those with mobility issues. As the hall nears its centenary, the community has rallied to raise funds for a much-needed renovation and major accessibility project, which includes adding ramps and making the garden accessible to all.

To support these efforts, Preseli’s umbrellas were put to creative use. As Helen Macfarlane, Vice Chair of the Village Hall and Walled Garden Charity, explains:

“We have kept a few umbrellas for the hall for when attendees are caught out with our unpredictable weather, and are selling the rest along with the bags. So far these sales have raised £75 for us which has gone towards creating ramped access to our lovely new community garden.”

She further shared:

“Work started earlier his year and it is so exciting to see it starting to come together. It does mean we have had to close the hall for 6 months and that means no income, yet we still have to cover bills to the tune of £300 a month.”

With Preseli’s donation and the dedication of the Lambeage Hall team, the project is well on its way to improving accessibility and community spirit within the village.

Supporting Granby Community Mental Health Group

Granby Community Mental Health Group, a multicultural support organisation based in Merseyside, provides critical resources for community members facing mental health challenges often worsened by social exclusion, discrimination, and financial hardship. Many service users are asylum seekers and refugees who lack adequate clothing and essentials, making Preseli’s umbrellas especially valuable as they prepare for the cold, rainy season.

Kellie Rostron, a representative of Granby Community Mental Health Group, shared her appreciation for the donation, noting that the charity works with a large number of service users seeking asylum, who are often hard hit by poverty. Something as simple as a quality umbrella can make a real difference, helping individuals stay dry and comfortable when they’re out and about. It’s a small but impactful gesture that reassures users they are supported by their community.

A Good Thing: creating connections for good

Preseli’s involvement with A Good Thing has deepened over the past year, with the company recently renewing its subscription. This partnership enables them to make use of unneeded items, reduce waste, and strengthen their commitment to social impact.

Jan Alder of Preseli explains:

“Whenever there are any products available our first thought is to donate through A Good Thing as we are able to reach many charities across the UK as well as locally.”

Through these partnerships, Preseli and A Good Thing continue to close the gap between businesses and charities, supporting communities across the UK. Their collaboration highlights how even simple, practical items can have a lasting impact when placed in the right hands, showcasing the value of giving back and making tangible contributions to causes that matter.
