Tech donations are needed for this innovative digital project to ensure social inclusion for refugees and asylum seekers
The charity:
Conversation Over Borders is a fantastic charity dedicated to ensuring equal opportunities for individuals embarking on new lives in the UK. Its mission entails providing free online English classes and delivering mental health support to refugees and asylum seekers across the UK.
Despite being registered in Brighton, the charity operates purely online. It has staff, volunteers and services users nationwide (and some volunteers outside the country too).
The charity’s story all started in May 2020, during the first lockdown: its founder, Colette, wanted to overcome the challenges of social isolation. She paired refugees and asylum seekers, and set up weekly English conversation classes to reduce social isolation and improve confidence. Now the charity offers the following programmes:
English and befriending
Wellbeing
Digital inclusion
Storytelling
The project:
Conversation Over Borders has impressively facilitated over 7,800 free English classes. But, given the charity’s digital nature, its services become inaccessible when its beneficiaries’ phones break or become too challenging to use. People can be left disconnected from both the charity and their families. Additionally, some of the charity’s clients are having to share phones, and this is a situation that disproportionately impacts women.
For all of these reasons, the charity is looking for tech donations in order to continue developing its range of educational opportunities.
The ask:
Phones
Laptops
Tablets
