79 pairs of socks donated to Street Storage, a homeless shelter in central London
Caroline Allouf, Referral and Outreach Manager at the Street Storage charity in London, was delighted when the Business Design Centre in Islington responded to her ‘charity need’ for underwear that she had requested through A Good Thing.
Street Storage is a charity based in Southwark, London, aiming to tackle homelessness. As well as providing showers for homeless people every Saturday, Street Storage has raised over £12 million in donations for the cause over the last 20 years. The charity reached out to A Good Thing when it was in need of underwear to provide to homeless people, and so was thrilled to be matched with 79 pairs of socks from the Business Design Centre!
Charity challenges
Street Storage provides underwear and toiletries to homeless people, alongside weekly showers at their centre. The charity does not only help with homelessness in central London, but in other areas of the city too, meaning that the process can often become costly. It was wonderful to hear that when Caroline came across A Good Thing, she found that Street Storage could be provided with these items at no cost!
“We do our best to get donations and fundraise, but this offer from the Business Design Centre was simply amazing for us!” Caroline told us.
An easy process
It was great to see that both Street Storage and the Business Design Centre found the process of using A Good Thing to be so simple!
Kirsty Jakulis, Conference Coordinator at the Business Design Centre, told us: “It was very easy to upload items onto the A Good Thing platform. We have since donated number stands, notebooks and pens!”
Caroline was also impressed: “It actually couldn’t have been easier. I submitted an explanation for wanting underwear for people who are experiencing homelessness – and within the same day I was alerted to having been successful!”
A positive future for Street Storage
We are delighted to hear that the socks have gone down a storm with guests at Street Storage, after the charity has been giving them out each week. Receiving donations from generous businesses like the Business Design Centre means that money raised by Street Storage can go towards expanding the charity even further, allowing them to support more people who are victim to homelessness.
Caroline from the charity added:
“We will most definitely use A Good Thing again. In fact, I get excited each time an offer pops up in my emails!”
