A peculiar piece of equipment finds a new charity home

When D&G Office Interiors approached A Good Thing with the offer of an SAO dispenser, we had to look up what exactly the piece of equipment was and how it was used. Despite the rather unusual item, Homes4Cardiff requested the offer after a matter of hours!

‘Almost anything’

An example of a Tersano SAO Dispenser

One phrase you’ll often hear members of the A Good Thing team saying is that ‘almost anything can be donated’ via our platform. We regularly see businesses unsure about signing up because they don’t have brand-new products to donate or hundreds of items to list. We constantly remind people that almost anything can be donated on our platform, from half-opened pots of paint, old uniforms, umbrellas, bamboo poles and floor tiles – we’ve seen a huge variety of items. Most recently, our supporter D&G Office Interiors offered a Tersano SAO Dispenser, which is not something you see every day!

Where did the offer come from?

D&G Office Interiors is one of Wales' top commercial and fit-out companies. Founded in 1994, it continues to be family-owned and run. D&G Office Interiors recently joined A Good Thing as one of our corporate supporters.

Steve Gardener, Director at D&G Office Interiors, explained to us how the offer of an SAO Dispenser came about:

“The unit was just fitted to a wall within a dental surgery where we were carrying out a refurbishment for a client. We had no idea what it was or did and had to Google it to find out.

Even then, we didn’t really think it would be very useful to anyone else and was only by a chance conversation with Anna, at A Good Thing, and she explained more about what you do and the whole array of charities you help.”

If, like Steve and our team, you’ve never heard of this item before, the SAO Dispenser uses water and oxygen to clean, sanitise, and deodorise everyday surfaces.

Steve was taken aback by how quickly a charity requested the item:

“Within just a matter of hours and to my complete amazement, we’d had a request for it!”

Where did the request come from?

Home4U Cardiff is a charity that provides accommodation to people seeking asylum who are facing destitution and homelessness. The charity believes that everyone should have a safe, clean, and warm place to call home in the UK. It aims to provide respite from homelessness and help individuals establish pathways out of destitution.

The Tersano SAO Dispenser will be used to clean and sanitise the rooms in their properties after people leave. A new SAO dispenser costs around £1,600, so we are thrilled that we have been able to find this item a new home and save this wonderful charity money.

Finding a home for anything

Steve of D&G explained the impact that joining a Good Thing has had:

“It just highlights the amount and variety of items that we come across in our day-to-day work that would have previously been scrapped or landfilled, and to find out that someone could use it is a great feeling and something that the whole company are on board with.”

Does your business have items collecting dust which could be donated to a charity in need?
